Understanding and seeing the philosophy behind working on country has reinforced the foundational concepts in my studies in sustainability science, which are rooted in holistic ways of seeing the world and the interconnectedness of all entities in social-ecological systems.

It was an incredibly opportunity to see how my university studies apply to the real-world, and to give me inspiration for the direction of my future studies and career opportunities.

The most rewarding aspects of my placement were being taken out on country with the traditional owners who - through the native title process and indigenous ranger program funding - have the capacity care for their land, and to see the opportunities and benefits that the organisation has provided for indigenous people and the wider indigenous and non-indigenous community.

My Aurora placement at Yuku-Baja-Muliku (YBM) over the winter break has become one of the most invaluable experiences of my time at university. It gave me new insights on what it means to be Australian, and the diversity and complexity of experiences and identities within this country.

My Aurora internship was an incredible opportunity to apply social-ecological systems thinking to a real-world case study in which I could actively participate and piece together.

It was a fortunate experience to be able to connect the paperwork to the actual management activities, as it made me comprehend the real-world impact of many of my studies.
