Are you a budding anthropologist that would like some hands-on work in this fascinating field? Or a curious archaeologist that wants to expand and further your knowledge? Do you have a great interest in the many cultures of the Indigenous people of Australia?
Then look no further! Aurora Internship Program is the right place to get started.
I was fortunate to spend five amazing weeks as an Aurora intern with the anthropology team of the South Australian Native Title Services (SANTS) in Adelaide. This organisation is of very high importance for the Indigenous communities across South Australia. SANTS provides valuable assistance to members of Indigenous communities regarding Native Title claims. SANTS provides the Indigenous community members with important support that includes legal assistance, anthropological research, and post-determination support. As an intern at SANTS, you will get the chance to do real work assisting the team with the research and anthropological reports that support the current Native Title claims across South Australia. Sometimes, fieldwork is necessary to gather information and survey claim areas. If you are lucky, fieldwork is a wonderful opportunity to see the magnificent country and meet the Indigenous claimants. Although I was there at the end of the year and the office was quite busy, all the SANTS staff are exceptional individuals that work flawlessly as a team. The atmosphere in the SANTS’ city office is warm and welcoming, with plenty of social activities and friendly assistance. And when the work is done, Adelaide has a lot more to offer. From stunning beaches, exceptional local foods, relaxing in the hills with some award-wining wines, you will struggle to choose what to do in your free time.
I highly recommend Aurora Internship Program to everyone that wishes to learn new things outside the classical lecture hall setting. And, I also highly recommend choosing SANTS in Adelaide. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent there.
