I was privileged enough to undertake a six-week Aurora Internship in Brisbane over the summer with Youth Justice, which is now known as Child Safety, Youth and Women (CSYW).
This was the first time I commenced an internship so naturally I was nervous about the experience, however the Aurora team were helpful throughout my application process, kept regular communication and with excellent host matching skills and follow up support I was on placement with Danila Dilba
The journey to my Aurora internship started 4 years ago when I visited Perth for the Global Health Conference, run by the Australian Medical Students Association. A speaker talked about the ‘Outback Vision Van’ a new initiative to bring ophthalmology services to the people of Western Australia.
**Please note the term Aboriginal will be used to be inclusive of the terms ‘Torres Strait Islander’ and ‘Indigenous’, unless stated otherwise.
I decided at the start of this year that I would become more proactive in my own individual development. For the past few years as a uni student, I had watched as others were given great opportunities and promoted the various organisations that they had been involved with.
