What Indigenous interns say

When I graduate at the end of 2019 my goal is to be doing my honours at WEHI. This is something I had never thought about, so the last 5 weeks has changed my life. The advice I have gained will have a forever lasting effect on me.

Stacy Rankin, WEHI

I could not be any more stoked on the experiences and knowledge I was privileged of gaining over summer. The Aurora program internships are absolutely fantastic! A very rewarding, and educational experience!

Brielle Long, Chatham

Interning at VACCHO has presented me with so many great learning opportunities and greater insight into Indigenous affairs and policy. This internship has given me enough insight, experience, motivation and inspiration to want to pursue a career into policy for Indigenous equality, so again thank you Aurora for your constant support throughout.

Sheneise Hall, VACCHO

The support I received from Aurora was phenomenal in organising the travel and accommodation for my placement. It’s such an amazing program and I will happily urge anyone interested to apply. Thanks so much for such an amazing experience. It has motivated to pursue a career that helps people.

Zac Fraser, TSRA

The best aspects of the internship program was being able to extend my cultural knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced within our remote communities. This has motivated me to get more experience in cross-cultural communication and community development work.

Rachel Hall, OTCS

The Aurora Internship Program I feel ensures Indigenous organisations from around Australia can access help and support in a professional and meaningful way of capacity building regional and urban areas while also providing significant lifetime experiences for undergraduate and post graduate students.

Vincent Backhaus, TSM

As an Indigenous person it’s a wonderful experience to be able to work with Aboriginal workers and share knowledges and experiences around the needs of Indigenous communities and be supported and mentored.

Takira Simon, Riawunna

The projects I was involved in really complemented each other, and my learning very well. They seemed perfectly tailored to me - not only did I use most of the subjects/skills learned in my recent degree, but working on the mental health commission project helped give me a better understanding of the field I am returning to.

Ruby Warber, Lowitja

My time at NAAJA has been invaluable and I have loved every minute of it. I cannot wait to come back one day!

Kassie McAlear, NAAJA

This has been a tremendous time for me. Thank you Aurora.

Kerry Franklin, AHCWA
