In July 2015, I completed my second anthropology internship through the Aurora Internship Program.  As an Aurora almuna (winter 2011), who has been working in Aboriginal health and community development for the past few years, I requested that I be placed with an NTRB in order to learn more about

I was fortunate enough to be placed at the Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) office in Geraldton, which is really a one-of-a-kind workplace.

As I neared the end of my Honours degree in anthropology I was still relatively unsure as to which direction to take next, that was of course until I heard about the Aurora Project from a fellow student.

Our Nissan Patrol hurtles along the perfectly straight, endless road stretching out due east. On either side, the rough bitumen is lined with ants’ nests – plump, craggy mounds of all different sizes – which rise from the red dirt like twin lines of pointy sandcastles.

Over the winter break, I completed a four-week legal internship at Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) in Geraldton, Western Australia as part of the Aurora Internship Program. From the first day, I felt so welcomed by all the staff at YMAC.
